As a senior vice president/investments at Stifel in Radford, VA, financial advisor George Abie Williams brings decades of experience to his work of advising clients across a range of wealth-management products. George Abie Williams is additionally a noted philanthropist and community leader, serving in board positions with Carolina University, the Radford University Athletics Foundation, and the Radford High School Foundation, Inc.

In recognition of Mr. Williams’ dedication and success as a donor and board member, Radford University in 2017 named its new baseball field in his honor. The current Williams Field at Carter Memorial Stadium caps years of effort to develop and upgrade the school’s athletic program.

In 2011, Radford University celebrated the creation of a new stadium for its 25-year-old baseball program. On April 8 of that year, the Radford Highlanders hosted Virginia Military Institute as the sold-out inaugural game of the Big South series got underway in Virginia’s New River Valley.

Six years later, the university’s athletic department marked another milestone with the official naming of the Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium and its Williams Field. The stadium’s 800-seat grandstand provides improved sightlines for fans, focusing right on the center of play, and ground-level seats offer increased proximity to the action. The new construction is topped off with a night-lighting system, a new press box, and a wide concourse.

The Radford University Athletics Foundation oversaw funding for the state-of-the-art construction on the stadium entirely through private contributions to the foundation and Highlander Club.
